Summer’s Here!

“The solstice comes in June and why? The sun is highest in the sky.”

This old phrase tells an abridged version of an old astronomical observation – the summer solstice. On June 21, the sun will reach its highest point north of the equator here in the Northern Hemisphere. The result of this is the longest period of daylight compared to darkness throughout the year. Even though the days start getting shorter after the solstice, this day marks the start of summer.

Naturally, just the opposite will happen in Ashburn; on the day of the winter solstice. But we’d rather focus on the summer months ahead and leave thoughts of dark, cold days for another time. Have fun, stay safe, and enjoy every bit of daylight that you can. Happy summer, all!
