Certified Virginia Values Veterans (V3) Employer
Ashburn, Va. – December 8, 2014 – Paul Davis Restoration of Northern Virginia, a leader in property damage restoration for residential and commercial buildings, was recently recognized by the Virginia Department of Veteran Services (DVS) as a “Virginia Values Veterans” (V3) certified employer. Through this initiative, the locally owned business is committed to hiring veterans and leveraging the knowledge and skills they learned in the military.
“Our participation in the V3 program includes an important goal to raise awareness about hiring opportunities for veterans, after they complete military service,” said Scott Darwin, Paul Davis’ Director of Emergency Services. “I know firsthand about the difficulty transitioning from the Army to the civilian job market and getting civilian employers to recognize the skills that I acquired during my years of military service,” he said. “As a former Airborne Ranger Infantry officer, with more than 20 years of successful professional experience in the civilian workforce, I understand what veterans can offer our company. We are committed to building and developing our veteran employees into the future leaders in our business.”
Kevin Sullivan, co-owner of Paul Davis Restoration along with his brother Tim, became aware of the V3 program through Darwin. Having grown up as neighbors, just outside Washington, DC, Darwin recently agreed to join Paul Davis Restoration and lead the company through the V3 program certification process. The efforts resulted in the company being honored by receiving their first V3 Certificate, signed by the Commonwealth’s Governor, Terry McAuliffe. Darwin believes the veterans hiring program is a good fit for him and the Paul Davis Restoration organization.
Additionally, Julia Ireland, Paul Davis’ Director of Corporate Development joined the restoration firm after serving as a captain in the United States Air Force. She also played a pivotal role in securing the company’s V3 certification. Other employees and recent veteran hires include Stan Lassiter – US Air Force E-5, Joel Barton – US Air Force E-4, Dennis Scienski – US Army E-4, James Diana – US Navy E-5, Ben Stolmeier – US Army E-6, and Antione Thompson – US Navy E-6.
“The V3 program has worked well for us with connections to veterans who are seeking employment after separating from the military. Since the execution of the initial concept, the V3 program has grown to reach hundreds of companies that have pledged more than 8000 jobs to veterans, resulting in more than 6000 hires to date. The V3 program was developed to educate and train employers throughout the Commonwealth on why it is a good business practice to recruit, hire, train, and retain veterans, and also to help certified companies meet their hiring goals.
